Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 WE Empower UN SDG Challenge. During the 2018 United Nations General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General, the President of the World Bank, and the Council of Women World Leaders introduced the WE Empower UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Challenge stands as a pioneering global competition for women’s social entrepreneurs who are driving forward the UN SDGs and inspiring entire communities to work towards achieving the world we desire by 2030.
This initiative acknowledges the innovative efforts of women social entrepreneurs and offers awardees opportunities for capacity-building training sessions and connections with an unparalleled global network to advance their enterprises. By showcasing and uplifting the significant contributions of women social entrepreneurs and business leaders towards the SDGs, this program aims to address the world’s most pressing challenges.
WE Empower Challenge Awardees will attend events around the 79th United Nations General Assembly in 2024 and meet with notable business leaders from around the world.
The WE Empower Challenge is jointly organized by the ASU Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory and Vital Voices Global Partnership.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must self-identify as women entrepreneurs.
- They must hold leadership positions within their respective entities.
- Their businesses or organizations must have been operational for a minimum of three years as of August 1, 2024.
- Applicants must employ at least three full-time employees or equivalents.
- The annual revenue generated by their business or organization must be at least $75,000 USD. For nonprofit organizations, revenue may include donations, grants, and funds raised through various fundraising activities.
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years old by August 1, 2024.
- They must be available to travel to New York, NY, and participate in all events from September 22 to September 29, 2024. Additionally, they should be able to participate in a virtual program from August through December 2024, if necessary.
Selection Criteria:
- Successful Awardees will be notified by July 2024 and will have the opportunity to visit New York City, New York (NY) during the UN Global Goals/Climate Week from September 22 to 27, 2024. During this time, they will participate in customized training sessions provided by leading and supporting partners and take part in high-profile events with UN Officials.
