The African Development Bank Group, in collaboration with the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), is proud to introduce the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP). This strategic partnership initiative aims to mobilize an impressive $25 billion for the rapid expansion and acceleration of climate change adaptation efforts throughout Africa.

Key Program Highlights:

  • Introduction of YouthAdapt, a flagship component within AAAP, focused on Empowering Youth for Entrepreneurship and Job Creation in Climate Adaptation and Resilience
  • The YouthADAPT Challenge, a vital part of this endeavor, targets female-owned enterprises that are actively engaged in Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies and innovations related to climate adaptation in Africa, with a particular emphasis on addressing gender inequality.

Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Technologies: These technologies encompass groundbreaking solutions, including artificial intelligence, big data analytics, virtual reality, robotics, the Internet of Things, quantum computing, additive manufacturing, blockchain, and Fifth-generation wireless. These innovations must be actively implemented in real-life climate scenarios across Africa.

Funding Support: This initiative receives funding support from the Africa Climate Change Fund (ACCF), hosted by the African Development Bank.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age: Entrepreneurs must be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Citizenship: The founder should either be of African nationality or actively involved in the enterprise’s operations.
  • Company Registration: Businesses must be legally registered in Africa.
  • Profitability: The enterprise should have a track record of generating profits for the past two years.
  • Impact on Climate Adaptation: Businesses must demonstrate a direct impact on climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Gender Focus: Only female-owned enterprises are eligible, with at least 51% of shareholding held by females.
  • Industry: The business should operate within Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies.
