Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024/2025 Slovak Republic Government Scholarships for Foreign Students. The Slovak Republic Government initiated the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) in 2005 to support the mobility of students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers, and artists. This program receives funding from the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic through the state budget.
Eligibility Criteria:
A) Students who:
- Are currently enrolled as university students at institutions outside Slovakia.
- Are pursuing a master’s degree (second level of higher education), or have completed at least 2.5 years of their university studies in the same or a similar study programme by the application deadline.
- Must have received acceptance from a public, private, or state higher education institution in Slovakia for academic mobility to pursue studies in the country.
All three conditions must be met. This criterion does not pertain to doctoral (PhD) studies or their equivalents.
- Duration of scholarship stay (for students): 1 – 2 full semesters (4 – 5 or 9 – 10 months) or 1 – 3 full trimesters if the academic year is divided into trimesters (3 – 4 or 6 – 7 or 9 – 10 months).
B) PhD students: Whose higher education or scientific training occurs outside Slovakia.Have received acceptance from a public, private, or state higher education institution or a research institution in Slovakia eligible to offer doctoral study programs (such as the Slovak Academy of Sciences) for academic mobility to pursue studies or engage in research/artistic endeavours in Slovakia.
- Duration of scholarship stay (for PhD students): 1 – 10 months.
C) International university teachers, researchers, and artists who are invited to stay in Slovakia for teaching, research, or artistic purposes by an institution holding a valid certificate for conducting research and development activities, provided that the institution is not a business entity and is located in Slovakia.
- Duration of scholarship stay (for university teachers, researchers, or artists): 1 – 10 months.
Benefits
Monthly Stipend:
a) University student at the second level of higher education: €620
b) PhD student: €1,025.50
c) University teacher/researcher/artist:
– Without a PhD degree and less than 4 years of work experience: €1,025.50
– With a PhD degree and less than 10 years of work experience: €1,370
– With a PhD degree and more than 10 years of work experience: €1,470
Travel Grant:
The travel allowance varies based on the distance between the applicant’s place of residence and their stay in Slovakia:
- Up to 200 km: €0
- More than 200 km, up to 300 km: €50
- More than 300 km, up to 500 km: €100
- More than 500 km, up to 1,000 km: €250
- More than 1,000 km, up to 2,000 km: €350
- More than 2,000 km, up to 3,000 km: €500
- More than 3,000 km, up to 5,000 km: €750
- More than 5,000 km, up to 7,000 km: €1,100
- More than 7,000 km: €1,500
Application Deadlines:
- April 30 at 16:00 CET: for scholarship stays during the next academic year
- October 31 at 16:00 CET is the deadline for scholarship applications for stays during the summer semester of the current academic year.
Application Procedure:
Scholarship applications are submitted online at www.scholarships.sk. The online application system opens at least 6 weeks prior to the application deadline. Applications can be filled in only when the online application system is open.
