Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 Senckenberg Global Fellowships.
Senckenberg is providing fellowships to exceptionally driven and skilled early-career scientists, encompassing doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers, originating from the Global South. The fellowships, spanning a period of three to a maximum of six months each, aim to support outstanding research, enhance and strengthen the global cooperation network, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge on a global scale.
Requirements:
- Applicants from countries of the Global South are eligible to apply.
- Candidates are required to possess a Master’s or PhD degree in one of Senckenberg’s research fields..
- Candidates are required to establish contact with a suitable scientist at Senckenberg who will serve as their host. Together, they will develop a research concept for a suitable topic to be pursued during the funded period at Senckenberg.
- It’s important to note that applicants are only eligible for a Senckenberg Global Fellowship if they do not receive parallel project funding during the fellowship period to avoid double funding.
Selection Procedure:
- A scientific selection committee comprising renowned scientists from the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung will review and select successful applications within approximately eight weeks after the application deadline.
- Senckenberg emphasizes equal opportunities for all genders and strives to promote career opportunities for women and underrepresented groups. Women and other marginalized groups who meet the qualifications are strongly encouraged to submit applications. Priority will be given to equally qualified candidates with disabilities.
Required Application Documents:
- Letter of motivation detailing research interests and experience (max. 1 page, submitted in the online form).
- Description of the project idea, including planned goals and implementation, agreed upon with the Senckenberg host. Candidates are required to elaborate on how their proposed project will enhance their range of methods and research portfolio, especially for postdoctoral researchers. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate how their research topic breaks new ground (max. 1 page, submitted in the online form).
- Letter of support from the host(s) at Senckenberg, acknowledging the applicant and their proposed work, and outlining how their stay will contribute to the host group’s expertise and add value to Senckenberg. Applicants should explain how the project fits into the Senckenberg research landscape and how it enriches the research of the host group and the field as a whole. They should also address whether the project breaks new ground or fills existing knowledge gaps (max. 1 page, to be uploaded).
- Current curriculum vitae, including a comprehensive list of publications (to be uploaded).
- Certificates of Master’s degree and, if applicable, PhD (to be uploaded).
- Optional: additional letters of recommendation (e.g., from mentors, supervisors; to be uploaded).
