We are excited to announce the commencement of our scholarship program for the year 2024. As part of our dedication to nurturing academic excellence and empowering the next generation of leaders, we’re providing scholarships to deserving students who exhibit exceptional academic performance, leadership qualities, and a commitment to community service.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in their 2nd year (200 level) at any public tertiary institution in Nigeria. They should be in their 2nd year at the time of application and must have been admitted in the 2021/2022 academic session. However, for institutions like the University of Lagos and the University of Ibadan that experienced a disrupted academic session, the criteria for admission in the 2021–2022 academic year may not apply.
- Candidates must have achieved a minimum CGPA of 3.5 (or its equivalent for other tertiary institutions) in their first academic session (i.e., First Year).
- Those who have secured direct entry admission into their 2nd year (and will remain in the second year by the end of April 2024) are eligible to apply.
Who Shouldn’t Apply?
- Siblings of current Senator Augustine Akobundu scholars—meaning children who share the same parents—are ineligible and cannot apply until their sibling’s current scholarship term is completed. (However, siblings of Senator Augustine Akobundu graduates are eligible to apply).
Application Requirements
- Applicants are required to provide a statement of results for their initial academic session (i.e., First Year), endorsed by the Department/Faculty’s Administrative Officer, who acts as a representative of the registrar within the department or faculty. This statement may be submitted during the final interview for shortlisted candidates. Direct entry candidates must furnish the qualifying results that granted them direct entry.
- Applicants must furnish a letter of endorsement from their community/religious group leader or a recent electricity bill covering the last three months prior to the interview month, confirming their current residency in Abia State.
- An essay of 1200 words is to be submitted by candidates, divided into three sections, addressing: (a) Their deepest source of gratitude and the reasons behind it; (b) Their most significant regret in life or the worst decision they’ve made, along with reflections on what they would do differently if faced with a similar situation; and (c) The most pivotal decision they’ve made in life and the rationale behind it.
- Applicants must present valid identification documents.
