StoryMi Academy, in partnership with the French Embassy in Nigeria, is excited to announce the commencement of the second iteration of the StoryMi Documentary Film Fellowship! This prestigious program provides a comprehensive six-month training opportunity for dedicated Nigerian documentary filmmakers.
Fellowship Journey:
- Global Exposure: As part of the fellowship, participants will have the privilege to attend the esteemed international documentary film festival, Sunny Side of the Doc, in France. This provides a valuable opportunity to glean insights from industry experts (scheduled for the end of June 2024).
- Intensive Learning: The fellowship entails comprehensive physical and virtual workshops, where fellows will delve into the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking under the guidance of esteemed instructors such as New York Times, OpDocs) , Louise Monlaü (Al Jazeera and Ike Nnaebue (No U-Turn, Arte production), among others. (All expenses related to travel and accommodation will be covered by StoryMi Academy).
- Remote Coaching & Project Development: Following the workshops, fellows will engage in regular individual coaching sessions, receiving ongoing support from their assigned mentors.
- Production Grants: Four outstanding fellows will be awarded substantial grants of 1.5 million naira each, empowering them to bring their documentary projects to fruition.
- Global Exposure: Additionally, fellows will have the chance to attend a prestigious international documentary film festival, further enriching their industry knowledge and network.
- Film Screening: A screening event is scheduled for December 2024 (date subject to change), providing a platform to showcase the fellows’ accomplished works.
Requirements:
To embark on this transformative journey, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Be a Nigerian citizen currently residing in Nigeria, aged between 20 and 35 years old.
- Experience: Possess prior experience in filmmaking or a related field, with involvement in at least one completed film project (web or non-web) as a credited member of the production team.
- Project Proposal: Present a compelling script or treatment ready for development and production, accompanied by a production bible or detailed plan outlining the execution of the proposed documentary project.
Selection Process:
Selection: The fellowship will accept ten fellows based on their application materials and mini-documentary submissions.
