The A STAR Graduate Scholarship (AGS) funds up to four years of PhD or EngD studies at autonomous universities in Singapore.
As an AGS scholar, you’ll engage in industry-focused and user-driven R&D projects, and may participate in an overseas attachment for up to 12 months during your studies.
After completing your PhD or EngD, you can apply for the A STAR International Fellowship (AIF) to pursue post-doctoral training at top international universities or research institutions, furthering your expertise and expanding your global network.

Benefits
Successful applicants will receive support for up to 4 years, including:
- Full tuition fees
- Monthly stipend, inclusive of CPF contribution (if applicable)
- Other allowances such as:
- Book allowance
- Computer allowance
- Conference allowance
- Thesis allowance
- Assistance for a maximum of 12 months of foreign attachment
Mid-term AGS awardees will receive the same support as full-term AGS awardees from the point of award, with retrospective payment for all tuition and compulsory fees from Year 1 of study onwards. All rates and allowances are subject to adjustments by A STAR.
Requirements Applicants must:
- Be Singaporeans or other nationals (non-Singaporeans must have completed or be on track to complete a degree at a Singapore autonomous university)
- Meet the admission criteria for a PhD or EngD program at an autonomous university
- Have at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, or be on track to achieve this
- Final-year undergraduate students are welcome to apply, but must secure at least a 2nd Upper Class Honours or equivalent results to be awarded the scholarship
- Have a strong interest in a career in research
For Mid-Term AGS Applicants:
- Applications are open to citizens of Singapore and other countries.
- Non-Singaporeans must have completed a degree at a Singapore autonomous university.
- Must be enrolled in a Singapore autonomous university and have completed at least 1 semester at the time of scholarship application.
- Must be on track to attain excellent academic standing in their current degree.
- Must demonstrate good research potential and/or achievements.
- Current university supervisor must be at least one of the two academic referees.
These eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A STAR may include additional selection criteria based on current scholarship policies, which can be amended without notice.
Selection Process
Interview:
- Shortlisted candidates will undergo two rounds of interviews. Only those shortlisted will be notified of the interview details.
