AnitaB.org is seeking remarkable technology innovators and leaders in technical civic positions to acknowledge through the Abie Awards program. The Abie Awards celebrate these distinguished individuals whose accomplishments and life stories illustrate their potential to positively impact the world, both individually and collectively. The awards acknowledge the remarkable talent and contributions of women and non-binary technologists in shaping the world through technology.
Abie Award Categories:
- Tech in Government Abie Award:
This award highlights the achievements of a woman or non-binary technologist working within the federal, state, or tribal government in the U.S. who has contributed to improving governmental services through technical innovation and modernization.
- Technical Leadership Abie Award:
This prestigious award honors a woman or non-binary technologist who has led or developed a product, process, or innovation that has had a significant impact on business or society.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Submissions from outside of the United States are welcome and encouraged for all awards.
- Nominees who wish to present an acceptance speech must be fluent in English, and all nomination forms must be submitted in English.
- Nominees must be 18 years of age or older by the start of the annual Grace Hopper Celebration at which the award will be presented. To be eligible for the 2023 Abie Awards, nominees must reach the age of 18 by September 26, 2023, at the latest.
- Nominators are allowed to submit multiple nominations for the same award, as well as nominations for several awards. However, detailed nominations are preferred over multiple entries (quality over number)..
- All Abie Awards are currently for individuals.
- Nominators are permitted to nominate someone from their own company for an Abie Award.
- Nominees are allowed to nominate themselves for an award.
Benefits:
- The recipient will be recognized at the Grace Hopper Celebration and will be invited to the Abie Award Ceremony on the Mainstage at GHC.
- The award winner will have several speaking engagements throughout GHC to discuss their work and achievements.
- The recipient will receive a fully funded trip to GHC, including lodging, registration, and a stipend for travel and expenses during the event.
- Additionally, recipients of the Technical Leadership Abie Award category will receive a $50,000 cash prize.
Selection Criteria:
Nominees are distinguished executive and/or senior-level technologists who inspire the technology community through exceptional technological contributions and are dedicated to advancing the representation of women and non-binary individuals in the tech industry. Nominees are assessed using the following criteria:
- Contributions to Technology: Demonstrated leadership through sustained technical work that explores significant new territories. Consider the scope, depth, and continuity of their work as a technologist and leader.
- Overall Impact: The nominee’s technical contributions have had a substantial impact on their industry or society.
- Impact on Women and Non-Binary Technologists: The nominee has taken deliberate actions to enhance the impact, representation, and effectiveness of women and non-binary individuals in technology.
