Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 AFS Global STEM Accelerators Program designed for young women worldwide.
The AFS Global STEM Accelerators consist of 12-week digital programs conducted from home. Participants engage in content covering global competence skills, social impact, and sustainability-focused workshops. The program’s content is collaboratively developed by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania. It concludes with student-led social impact projects and presentations addressing real-world challenges, with a specific focus on climate change and the energy transition.
Upon successful completion of the program, scholars receive the Advanced Certificate on Global Competence for Social Impact, jointly awarded by AFS and the University of Pennsylvania Center for Social Impact Strategy.
Requirements
- Participant Age: Must be between 15 and 17.5 years old at the program start date.
- Language: Must have the ability to fully participate, both online and in a classroom setting, in a program conducted entirely in English.
- Interest: Demonstrated interest in STEM, sustainability, and global competencies, along with curiosity and a willingness to interact with diverse global peers and explore new cultures.
- Technology: Access to a computer, smartphone, or other digital device to engage with virtual program content; an integrated webcam and microphone for participation in online dialogue sessions; a stable internet or wifi connection.
Talented young women from all backgrounds, particularly those representing underrepresented populations, and students with high finances, are strongly encouraged to apply!
The all-virtual Global STEM Accelerators Exchange program, spanning 12 weeks, will be conducted in two cohorts throughout 2024:
- Cohort 1: May 4 until August 4, 2024
- Cohort 2: August 24 through November 24, 2024
Timeline:
- February 1: Opening of the application period
- March 17: Application deadline
- April 5: Admissions decisions for Cohort 1 communicated via email
- April 6–May 12: Virtual Exchange for Cohort 1
- May 10: Admissions decisions for Cohort 2 communicated via email
- June 22 – July 28: Cohort 2 virtual exchange
- Applications will be continuously reviewed, and scholarship winners for the 2024 Global STEM Accelerators will be announced on April 5, 2024 (for Cohort 1 scholars) and May 10, 2024 (for Cohort 2 scholars).
