Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 Women’s Fellowship organized by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC). GI-TOC is pleased to announce the launch of this new fellowship initiative designed to empower female leaders in enhancing community resilience to combat environmental crime. Titled ‘Strengthening Women’s Resilience to Organized Environmental Crime’, this initiative focuses on the crucial intersection of gender and environmental crime, amplifying the voices of women actively engaged in environmental protection efforts.
The Fellowship forms part of GI-TOC’s flagship Resilience Fund, which offers grants and assistance to individuals and organizations in civil society dedicated to countering the impacts of criminal governance and violence worldwide. Five individual proposals focusing on different aspects of environmental crime will be selected and provided support through the following methods:
Grants:
This Fellowship addresses the lack of financial backing for gender-inclusive projects combating environmental crime. It offers grants of £12,000 to women leaders who are actively involved in initiatives empowering local women to combat environmental crime.
Capacity Building:
Grantees will receive access to customized capacity-building sessions. Each grantee will be paired with a mentor from the Resilience Fund to assist them in navigating the unique challenges of their projects and contexts, as well as to help them seize opportunities to raise awareness about their work.
Networking and Collaboration:
In October 2024, the Resilience Fund will convene grantees in Vienna, Austria, to participate in global policy forums and attend the 12th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. The Fund will facilitate dialogues and meetings among grantees to explore avenues for collaboration, prioritize gender issues, and devise innovative strategies to safeguard their environments. Additionally, grantees will be invited to join the Resilience Fund Community Platform, providing access to funding opportunities, global dialogues, and multilateral engagements beyond the duration of the grant.
Benefits:
- Each Fellow will receive a total of £12,000, distributed in three instalments of £4,000 each.
