Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Sony World Photography Awards. This prestigious competition, which has been elevating the careers of photographers from established to emerging for 16 years, is the leading contest for photographers and artists working in photography. The competition comprises four categories: Professional, Open, Student, and Youth. All entries are free, and the top prize is $25,000.
Professional Competition
- Free to enter
- Available to anyone who submits a series of 5 to 10 images in each category
- Ten diverse categories available
- Prizes are awarded to photographers placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, along with up to 7 shortlisted photographers per category.
- The Photographer of the Year title is awarded to one overall winner
- The Photographer of the Year is rewarded with a solo presentation of their work at the Sony World Photography Awards London exhibition the following year

Open Competition
- Entry is free and open to all individuals submitting single images captured in 2024
- Enter up to three single images for free
- Ten diverse categories available
- Awards for category winners, plus up to 15 shortlisted photographers per category
- The Open Photographer of the Year title is awarded to the overall winner
- Deadline: January 3, 2025, at 13:00 GMT

Youth Competition
- The competition spans from June 1, 2024, to January 3, 2025
- Photographers can enter up to three images related to the theme ‘Through Your Eyes’
- Judges will choose a shortlist consisting of a maximum of 10 photographers
- The shortlist competes for the Youth Photographer of the Year title
- The overall winner receives the Youth Photographer of the Year title and a Sony digital imaging kit

Student Competition
- Free to enter for anyone aged 18 to 30 years old enrolled in a full-time photography program.
- Students must submit 5 to 10 images addressing a set brief.
- A maximum of 10 photographers will be selected for the shortlist.
- One overall winner will be awarded the Student Photographer of the Year title.
- Deadline for entries is November 29, 2024, at 13:00 GMT.
