International first-year students can apply for a select number of merit scholarships. These scholarships are awarded through a competitive process that evaluates SAT or ACT scores and high school academic performance. Students need to complete the OneApp scholarship application to be considered.
Benefits
- Award of Achievement: Up to $40,000 ($5,000/year–$10,000/year)
- Award of Distinction: Up to $16,000 ($2,000/year–$4,000/year)
- Scholarships support first-year recipients for up to eight semesters or until they complete their degree, whichever occurs first.
Requirements
- Must be a new international first-year student with an admission offer and assessed at international tuition rates.
- Submit the Iowa State University OneApp application.
- Complete both the General OneApp application and the International Student Admissions Scholarship application.
To retain the scholarship at Iowa State:
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Be enrolled continuously in at least 12 semester credits each semester (excluding summer terms).
- Be assessed at international tuition rates.
- Use the scholarship exclusively for undergraduate tuition and fees.
Method of Application
To apply for the International Merit Scholarship, go to the OneApp Scholarship Portal, submit the General Application, and then apply for the International Students Admission Scholarship Application under Opportunities > Recommended (choose spring or fall).
