The Financial Institution Group (FIG) is a crucial department within IFC, responsible for a substantial portion of its business volume, profitability, and developmental influence, comprising roughly 40%. FIG operates across various sub-sectors, including Microfinance, SME, Gender, Climate, Insurance, Capital Markets, Housing, Distressed Assets, and others, offering investment and advisory services globally through IFC’s extensive network. FIG’s primary objectives encompass financial inclusion, supporting the real economy, and mobilizing third-party resources. The overarching aim is to foster efficient financial systems that promote financial inclusion, stimulate economic growth in client countries, and enhance IFC’s developmental contributions.
FIG is currently seeking an Investment Analyst to join the Investment and Portfolio Team, which oversees IFC’s financial sector investments in Southern Africa.
Key Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of investment transaction financial aspects, including market analysis and assessing the financial viability of company or project opportunities.
- Proficiency in financial statement analysis, accounting, finance, financial modeling, and comparable company analysis to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Ability to analyze and interpret debt pricing benchmarks and equity trading comparables.
- Fundamental understanding of how investments in various industries and sectors influence economic, market, and social development, employing mapping methodology to evaluate market conditions, gaps, and business prospects.
- Identify data collection requirements to support the evaluation of financial, operational, developmental impact, and market information, as well as relevant Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) matters. Coordinate with clients to acquire necessary information.
- Demonstrate active listening skills by attentively listening to others to discern client and stakeholder needs.
- Proficient in distilling and summarizing extensive information from diverse sources to prepare business documents and presentations.
- Capable of writing in a logical and comprehensive yet concise manner.
- Proficient in using graphics and tables to creatively and effectively present data.
- Exceptional attention to detail and diligence.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 2-5 years of work experience in a financial institution, particularly in investment projects.
- Ability to develop complex financial models.
- Strong interest in development finance and multicultural environments.
- Highly motivated with a commitment to the highest ethical standards, capable of working successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries.
- Strong knowledge of financial institutions and markets.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills, including corporate finance.
- Strong ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written form.
- Excellent proficiency in written and verbal English; proficiency in French or Portuguese is desirable.
