INTERACT-Africa is an academic mobility project funded by the European Union (EU) that focuses on Chemistry, Biology, and Information Technology. Its main objective is to convert organic waste into valuable bioproducts to facilitate the transition to environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive economies.
The project aims to achieve the following:
1. Enhance capacity building of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) by providing inclusive learning mobility opportunities in green Chemistry, Biology, and Information Technology.
2. Foster entrepreneurship and support the establishment of green technology businesses in Africa by offering mentorship, access to funding, and technical support to aspiring entrepreneurs and start-ups.
3. Facilitate networking and knowledge sharing among businesses to promote innovation and sustainable economic growth through internships, cooperative education programs, and hands-on learning opportunities.
INTERACT-Africa is providing 28 scholarships for postgraduate studies, comprising 5 scholarships for PhD programs and 23 for Master’s programs. The maximum duration for PhD scholarships is 36 months, while for MSc scholarships, it is 24 months.
Eligibility criteria include meeting the minimum admission requirements for Masters and PhD programs, being a national and resident of an eligible African country, submitting a research concept paper, obtaining an admission letter from the host university, and not having previously benefited from certain scholarship schemes. Additionally, applicants must provide a motivation letter reflecting innovative technologies in climate change and mitigation, recommendation letters, proof of special needs where applicable, and demonstrate proficiency in English or French, depending on the language of instruction at the chosen institution.
Funding
- Coverage of tuition fees and research costs throughout the study period.
- Comprehensive health and accident insurance coverage.
- PhD students will receive a monthly stipend of €1,230, while Master’s students will receive €890 per month.
1. PhD students will be granted a monthly stipend of 1230 Euros, which encompasses travel expenses to and from the host institution, visa fees, and a settling allowance.
2. MSc students will receive a monthly stipend of 890 Euros, including travel costs to and from the host institution, visa expenses, and settling allowance.
Language of Instruction
1. The language of instruction varies depending on the hosting institution/country, namely English for Moi University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Addis Ababa University, and Sokoine University of Agriculture.
2. French is used at Institut Facultaire Des Sciences Agronomiques De Yangambi (IFA-Yangambi) University.
