University of Pretoria MasterCard Foundation 2024 Scholarship for African Students

Since January 2014, the University of Pretoria (UP) has collaborated with the Mastercard Foundation to provide scholarships to high-achieving African students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Starting from January 2024, the Foundation will initiate a new phase, targeting academically gifted but economically disadvantaged individuals in Africa, specifically those living with disabilities and internally displaced persons/refugees. These individuals are expected to contribute to the continent’s transformation through their knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values, which are demonstrated through their leadership, community service, and internships.

The Foundation extends a comprehensive scholarship to selected students admitted to pursue postgraduate degrees at UP. Upon completion of their studies, graduates are required to return to their home countries and contribute to their communities.

Requirements:

  • Applications are open to undergraduate, Honours, and Masters students who have applied for and been accepted to the University of Pretoria.
  • Applicants should demonstrate leadership qualities and a commitment to community service by participating in projects, school activities, or religious organizations, indicating a dedication to making a positive impact.
  • Scholars must maintain outstanding academic performance, with a high academic average being a crucial aspect of the Program’s expectations.
  • The program targets African youth facing significant socio-economic challenges, including refugees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), and individuals with disabilities, who aspire to pursue higher education.

Step 1: Begin the application process by downloading and completing the relevant hard copy of the application form provided below: undergraduate-application-2025.pdf or postgraduate-application-2025.pdf. Ensure that all required supporting documents are included with your submission.

Step 3: Following submission, your application will undergo a review process. You will receive notification of the outcome thereafter. If you do not receive a response, Please regard your application as unsuccessful.

Step 4: Before admission into the Program, all eligible candidates will undergo an interview as part of the selection process.
