Applications are currently being accepted for the African Development Bank (AfDB) 2024 Internship Program. The Bank is dedicated to supporting transformative projects aimed at significantly reducing poverty and fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth. To effectively achieve its objectives outlined in the Ten-Year Strategy (2023 – 2032) and accelerate developmental impact, the Bank has identified five key areas for scaling up: energy, agro-business Industrialization, integration, and enhancing the quality of life in Africa. The Internship program forms part of a comprehensive Talent Management Framework designed to facilitate the Bank’s delivery of its strategic objectives and the High 5s.
Participants in the program are selected competitively based on the bank’s business needs.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be of the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin and not exceed thirty (30) years old at the start of the internship.
- Currently pursuing a master’s degree in a recognized public or private educational institution of higher learning.
- Applicants may apply for an internship within one (1) year of obtaining their degree.
- Nationals of African Development Bank member countries.
- Provide a letter from their school proving their enrollment or a copy of their diploma. Proficiency in at least one of the Bank’s working languages (English or French) is required.
- Able to use standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); familiarity with SAP is desirable.
Objectives:
The primary goals of the program are to:
- Offer students the opportunity to obtain practical and professional experience with the African Development Bank.
- Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment endeavors.
The Required Fields of Study for the Internship:
- Interns are chosen from fields of study aligned with the Bank’s job families, including but not limited to Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development (Education and Health), Environment, Finance, Infrastructure Development, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Communications, Law, Internal Audit, Budget, Governance, or other relevant fields deemed necessary by the Bank.
- Preference will be given to students working on projects directly related to the Bank’s mission.
Schedule for the (2nd) Second Session of the 2024 Internship Program:
Session 2 of the 2024 Internship Program is scheduled to begin in July 2024.
Terms and Conditions:
- Internships will be granted for a period ranging from three (3) to six (6) months, with each candidate eligible for only one internship opportunity.
- Selected interns may work remotely or on-site based on the needs of their respective units. Remote interns must have access to a personal computer, reliable internet, and a conducive working environment.
- On-site interns are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Bank’s location, as well as their living expenses.
- The Bank will assist interns in obtaining entry and residence visas.
- Eligible interns will receive medical insurance coverage provided by the Bank during their internship.
- Interns will receive a monthly stipend.

The Bank conducts two internship sessions annually. Session 1 for 2024 has been finalized, and this announcement pertains to Session 2, starting in July 2024.
The announcement for Session 1 of the 2025 Internship Program will be made in October 2024, with selected interns beginning in January 2025.
