The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at KNUST provides academically talented but economically disadvantaged young individuals in Ghana and Africa with access to quality and relevant university education. It provides a range of mentoring and cultural transition services aimed at ensuring academic success, fostering community engagement, and facilitating the transition to employment, thereby contributing to social and economic development in Africa. The program, housed at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (MCFSP at KNUST), aims to nurture the next generation of ethical and transformative leaders who will drive positive change in their home countries and across the African continent.
Benefits of the scholarship include comprehensive financial support covering full tuition, on-campus accommodation, learning materials, transportation, and a monthly stipend. Scholars also participate in regular group meetings focused on personal and professional development, receive academic support through mentoring and tutoring, and have opportunities for leadership development, community service, and internships. Additionally, they become part of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Alumni and the Global Scholars Community, with the possibility of pursuing an accelerated Master’s Degree at a partner institution in the USA after completing undergraduate studies.
Applicants must meet specific requirements, including possessing relevant academic qualifications, demonstrating critical economic needs, and showcasing leadership and community engagement experience. They must also commit to giving back to their communities and not be enrolled in any tertiary institution. Priority is given to females, displaced persons, and individuals with disabilities.
