The Office of the Rector at the United Nations University in Tokyo seeks highly qualified candidates to serve as Junior Fellows. These positions are filled through a competitive application process held twice a year. Graduate students with an interest in the United Nations, particularly UNU, are encouraged to apply.
The Junior Fellows Internship Programme at the Office of the Rector is designed to offer a vibrant, stimulating, and fulfilling opportunity for graduate-level students and young professionals. Accepted candidates will play a significant role in advancing the objectives of the Office of the Rector, the United Nations University, and the wider UN system. Qualifications
Candidates for the internship programme should possess the following qualifications, among others:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed postgraduate studies (master’s or doctoral), preferably in a field related to the University’s work
- Applicants must be under 32 years old at the time of submitting their application.
- Less than 5 years of work experience in their related field
- Proficiency in written and spoken English at a native or fluent level is required.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with diverse backgrounds
- Resourcefulness and creativity in problem-solving
- Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications (familiarity with ICT tools and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel are desirable)
- Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and specifically in the work of the United Nations University
Stipend
- Interns who do not receive financial support from other sources, such as universities or institutions, will receive a stipend from UNU to partially cover their basic living costs during the internship.
- The monthly stipend amount is determined for each duty station based on prevailing rates.
- Stipends are paid monthly and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.
Contract Duration: The internship period spans approximately 4 months, equivalent to 16 weeks.
Projected Start Date: August 12, 2024
Projected End Date: December 20, 2024
