Applications are currently being accepted for the MIT-Empowering the Teachers (MIT-ETT) Programme. This semester-long fellowship is designed for engineering professors teaching at local universities in Nigeria who have recently obtained their Ph.D.
The MIT-Empowering the Teachers Program (MIT-ETT) seeks to offer an immersive teaching-focused opportunity to specific groups of faculty members (ETT Fellows) from universities in Africa. Through this program, ETT Fellows are introduced to cutting-edge, student-centered teaching methodologies, with the goal of fostering innovation in science and engineering education across tertiary institutions in Africa.
The overarching objective of MIT-ETT is to nurture the development of young African faculty leaders in science and engineering education, who will bring innovation and creativity to the curricula in these fields. The program has two primary objectives: to expose junior African professors to MIT’s advanced pedagogical methods focused on problem-solving and to facilitate connections between American faculty and those in emerging economies who share a common interest in their respective disciplines.
Program Objectives:
- Expose junior African professors to MIT’s advanced pedagogical methods for problem-solving.
- Encourage ETT fellows to become catalysts for change within their academic institutions.
- Enable ETT fellows to expand their professional networks, including connections with MIT faculty members interested in emerging economies.
During their semester at MIT, the ETT fellows will:
- Attend a minimum of 2 MIT courses relevant to their own disciplines
- Enroll in a curriculum design course and apply research-based instructional design principles in their own teaching
- Engage in discussions and explorations regarding curriculum enhancement and reform through formal and informal interactions with the MIT community
- Participate in various activities aimed at developing essential skills for driving change. These skills encompass entrepreneurship, effective communication, experiential learning, reflection, collaboration, systems thinking, and perseverance.
