Applications are currently being accepted for the 2025 South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Graduate Development Programme Data Science Internship. The SARB is looking for highly competent postgraduates to enroll in their one-year Data Science Graduate Development Programme, which begins in January 2025.
The primary objective of the SARB is to support the economic welfare of South Africans by maintaining price and financial stability. Its responsibilities include regulating the South African financial sector, overseeing the design and distribution of banknotes and coins, managing interest rates, determining the cash reserve requirement for banks, and ensuring stability within the banking sector and broader financial system.
Program Structure:
The SARB’s Business Systems and Technology Department will house the selected graduates from January 2025 until December 2025. Throughout the program, participants will engage in various learning activities at the SARB Academy, which includes technical training. The program offers a specialized Data Science track, where interns will have the opportunity to work within a Data Lab environment on a variety of use cases.

Candidates must possess or be in the process of completing a postgraduate qualification, ideally having finished coursework, in one of the following fields:
- Data Science
- Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence
- Predictive Analytics Modeling
- Statistics
- Applied Mathematics
- Economics with Econometrics
- Information Technology
- Engineering
- Business Mathematics and Informatics.
Additional prerequisites include proficiency in coding with R and/or Python, South African citizenship, and being a curious, innovative, and self-motivated individual with strong analytical skills. Applicants should also demonstrate a history of academic excellence with an overall average mark of 70% or higher, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
