JJ/WBGSP, the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program, is presently accepting applications. This program is open to citizens of specific developing countries who possess relevant professional experience and have a track record of contributing to their countries’ development endeavours and are applying to master’s programs in fields connected to development.
Eligibility Criteria:
In general, nationals of Developing Countries must:
- Hold citizenship of a World Bank member developing country as listed.
- Not be dual nationals of more than one developed nation.
- Be in good physical health.
- Possess an undergraduate degree, or its equivalent, earned three years or more before the application deadline.
- Have a paid full-time job related to development work at the time of the scholarship application.
- Have a minimum of three years of paid employment in development-related roles since obtaining a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent), acquired within the past six years from the application deadline.
Benefits:
The JJ/WBGSP scholarship offers the following advantages to recipients:
- Economy class airfare for travel between their home country and the host university at the beginning and end of the scholarship term. Additionally, scholars receive a $600 travel allowance for each trip.
- Coverage of tuition fees for the graduate program and basic medical insurance obtained through the university.
- A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses (including accommodation, food, etc.) while on campus during the scholarship period. The value of this allowance varies depending on the country where the host university is located.
Please note that all JJ/WBGSP scholarships cover either the duration of the graduate program or two years, whichever is shorter.
The JJ/WBGSP scholarship does not cover:
- Visa application fees
- Expenses for bringing or supporting family members of the scholar
- Extra-curricular courses or training
- Courses that do not fulfill the minimum credit requirements for the graduate degree
- Language training not provided by the graduate program
- Additional travel beyond the designated trips
- Expenses related to research, supplementary educational materials, field trips, workshop/seminar participation, or internships
- Educational equipment such as computers
- Resident permit fees
Application Requirements:
Submit a Single Online Application:
- Only a single fully completed application submitted electronically via the JJ/WBGSP application portal will be considered for review by the W2 application deadline: May 24, 2024, at 12:00 noon EST.
- An application is considered complete if it includes both of the following:
a. Two professional recommendation letters, submitted online, from individuals who possess direct knowledge of the applicant’s professional work experience.
b. One completed application form (including the applicant’s agreement to the conditions stated on the signature page of the application form) written either in English or the language of the applicant’s master’s degree program. (For example, a completed application form written in French by an applicant seeking a scholarship to attend a university in the USA or the United Kingdom will not be reviewed.).
