UNESCO Prize for Girls and Women's Education: $50,000 Award Opportunity

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional and innovative contributions made by individuals, institutions, and organizations in the advancement of girls’ and women’s education. Sponsored by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the prize is awarded annually to two recipients, each receiving US $50,000 to further their work in this crucial area. Established in 2016 by the Director-General of UNESCO, this prize highlights successful projects that enhance educational opportunities for girls and women, thereby improving their quality of life.

Nomination Process:

UNESCO Member States can nominate up to three candidates through their Permanent Delegations to UNESCO, while Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO also have nomination privileges. Self-nominations are not permitted.

Eligibility:

Individuals, institutions, or organizations that are actively advocating for the advancement of girls’ and women’s education are eligible for nomination. Nominated projects or programs must be established and operational for a minimum of two years and must meet the specified selection criteria.

How to Submit Nominations:

Self-nominations are not permitted. If you, your institution, or organization meet the selection criteria, kindly reach out to your country’s National Commission to UNESCO or an appropriate NGO that is officially partnered with UNESCO.

Nomination Process:

Nominations can be made via the dedicated online platform in either English or French by the National Commission or Permanent Delegation to UNESCO of the respective Member State, or by an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO.
Nominations from a Member State’s National Commission must be endorsed by the Permanent Delegation. Nominations from NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO must be endorsed by the organization’s headquarters. Nominations from country branches or affiliated offices will be ineligible.
National Commissions and Permanent Delegations to UNESCO can use their official UNESCO accounts to access the online submission platform at http://unesco.org/gwe. NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO will receive direct access to the online platform from the Secretariat upon request. To request access, please contact GWEPrize@unesco.org.
Member States and NGOs in official partnerships can request candidates to complete the online nomination form directly. Access to the platform will be provided to candidates by the Prize Secretariat upon request from the nominating entity (National Commission, Permanent Delegation, or NGO in official partnership with UNESCO). Requests for access should be sent to GWEPrize@unesco.org by May 22, 2024. Once completed by the candidate, the nominating entity must review and validate the submission.
Nominations must be submitted via the online platform by midnight on May 24, 2024 (UTC+1, Paris time). Please note that each nominating entity (Member State or NGO in official partnership with UNESCO) may submit a maximum of three nominations.
