IBM 2024 Sustainability Accelerator: Empowering Tech-Driven Initiatives

The IBM Sustainability Accelerator is currently seeking proposals for technology-driven projects that advance resilient cities, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 to create inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable urban environments. This year’s cohort will focus on fostering long-term urban resilience.

Through collaboration with selected organizations, IBM works to design, develop, and implement technical solutions that directly benefit communities. Participants gain access to platforms like Watson, IBM Cloud, IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite, and Red Hat open-source technologies, along with technical mentorship to enhance long-term capacity. Selected organizations will need to enter into an IBM grant agreement governing access to IBM technology, services, and resources.

Requirements:

Nonprofit and governmental organizations are encouraged to submit proposals for technology-driven projects that would benefit from:

  • Hybrid cloud and AI solutions
  • Sustainability software
  • Data science-enabled insights
  • Expert consulting and design services

Selection Process Timeline:

The IBM Sustainability Accelerator is currently accepting proposals for its next cohort until April 30, 2024. Projects will be selected and announced by the end of 2024, and each selected organization will receive support for up to two years. Approximately five organizations are chosen each year to form a cohort focused on addressing a specific sustainability issue.

The selection process involves:

  • A public request for proposals (RFP) is open to all nonprofit or government organizations.
  • Evaluation of proposals for feasibility and impact, including vetting through standard IBM compliance processes.
  • Input from IBM experts across various disciplines such as IBM Consulting, Research, Software, Corporate Environmental Affairs, and Corporate Social Responsibility.
  • Consideration of criteria includes the applicant’s support for vulnerable communities facing environmental threats, strategic focus, and transparency in measurement and reporting.
