Applications for the 2024 Loughborough Development Trust Africa Scholarship are currently available. This scholarship provides full coverage of the course fees for a selected postgraduate taught program for one year, supplanting any prior departmental or Loughborough University scholarships or bursaries awarded to the recipient. The University will grant a limited number of scholarships, and the criteria for selection are very rigorous.
Recipients are expected to cover their travel and living expenses through other means, and proof of financial support must be provided as part of the scholarship application. These scholarships are funded through a combination of external contributions and University funds.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applications will undergo an initial shortlisting process, with final decisions made by a selection panel comprising senior University staff. The panel will consider the following criteria when evaluating applications:
- Applicants must currently be domiciled (permanently living) in Africa.
- Demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, typically evidenced by a first-class honours degree.
- Dedication to go back to their native country after finishing the postgraduate program.
- Evidence of the ability and dedication to making a significant contribution to their home country upon their return.
- Full comprehension of the expenses associated with studying and living in the UK.
- Demonstrated strong motivation and initiative in securing funds to cover remaining expenses.
Application Instructions:
- Upon receiving an offer of study, eligible students can apply for the scholarship.
- The selection panel prioritizes applicants with outstanding academic records, usually First Class Honours, and those who demonstrate a strong commitment to making a significant contribution to their society upon returning home after completing their course.
