Applications are currently being accepted for the UNESCO Kulturweit Tandem Exchange Program. From February 12th to March 10th, 2024 (12 p.m. CET), women* from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, and young people from Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, and Togo can apply online for kulturweit incoming. The stay in Germany will occur from the end of August to November 2024.
As part of the German UNESCO commission, the international cultural voluntary service offers young people from Germany aged 18 to 26 the opportunity to engage in foreign culture and education policy for either six or twelve months. Throughout the program, all volunteers receive financial support and participate in seminars, making kulturweit accessible to all young people!
Formal Requirements:
- Participants must be between 18 and 26 years old throughout the entire voluntary service period, meaning they cannot turn 27 during their assignment.
- The primary place of residence must be Germany (volunteers should have spent the majority of the past two to three years in Germany, though German citizenship is not required).
- Fluent German language skills (proficiency level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
- Basic knowledge of the English language, as well as ideally some understanding of a language spoken in the host country.
- Good health and physical condition suitable for living abroad.
- A passport with validity extending for at least six months beyond the scheduled return date.

Selection Process:
Following an initial screening by the German Commission for UNESCO, application documents are forwarded to the respective partner organizations for final assessment. Upon completion of the final selection, applicants will be notified of their assignment offer.
Assignment Proposal: Approximately six months prior to the scheduled departure, all prospective volunteers will receive an assignment proposal.
Assignment Acceptance: Applicants who receive an assignment proposal will have approximately one week to accept or decline the offer. Declined assignments will be offered to the next applicant on the waiting list.
Selection Process Details:
- The kulturweit team at the German Commission for UNESCO will conduct the initial selection process over the next four to six weeks.
- Following the preliminary selection phase, all applicants will receive an email notification regarding the status of their application.
- During this stage, rejections or positive intermediate notifications will be sent to applicants, which will be considered in the second phase of the selection process.
- Subsequently, any outstanding applications will be forwarded to one of kulturweit’s partner organizations for conclusive evaluation. The selection process will be completed within ten to twelve weeks.
