The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UBC spans a decade and aims to support 171 scholars, encompassing both undergraduate and master’s students.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree completion is a prerequisite.
- Candidates should not hold a graduate or PhD degree.
- Applicants must be 35 years old or younger at the time of application (born in 1988 or after).
- Citizens or refugees of Sub-Saharan African countries are eligible.
- A significant portion of their life should have been lived in a Sub-Saharan African country.
- Candidates should exhibit financial constraints and academic excellence despite challenging circumstances.
- Demonstration of leadership qualities or potential.
- A commitment to contribute to their home community and a dedication to returning to Africa to apply their skills for its improvement.
- Must require a Canadian study permit and should not have claimed asylum or protected person status in Canada.
Application for a Master’s degree in specified faculties and programs at UBC’s Vancouver campus is mandatory.

Funds from this scholarship are solely for UBC programs and cannot be applied to other academic institutions.
