The In-Country/In-Region Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa is dedicated to strengthening higher education systems in the region, promoting internationalization, and nurturing the capacity for sustainable development. Scholarships are offered for Master’s or doctoral studies in development-related fields. These scholarships are intended for individuals aspiring to build careers in teaching and research at higher education institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa.
As part of the “In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme,” DAAD provides funding for PhD and Master’s studies. This initiative is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and primarily targets university staff while also addressing the demand for academically trained professionals in the public sector.
Requirements
The scholarship program is designed for graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa. Eligibility criteria include having a first academic degree when applying for a Master’s program or a Master’s degree when applying for a doctoral program. These scholarships can be pursued either within one’s home country (referred to as in-country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country (referred to as In-Region scholarships). Special encouragement is extended to female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups.
