Grant Conditions:
The grant is designated for the proposed project exclusively and in alignment with the approved budget. All grant recipients must sign an agreement with the Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, specifying the grant’s terms and conditions. Recipients are required to offer regular progress updates and reports to the Ministry, partake in knowledge-sharing initiatives organized by the Ministry, and acknowledge the Ministry’s support in all publications and public presentations linked to the project. The Ministry maintains the right to withdraw the grant if the project fails to meet the agreed-upon milestones and objectives.

Requirements:
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must constitute a consortium that encompasses a local startup or technology company, a local academic researcher, and, when feasible, a foreign researcher. Additional prerequisites include possessing a research proposal aligned with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation priority areas, a detailed project proposal outlining its potential impact on the Nigerian economy, and a demonstrable record of excellence in research or entrepreneurship. Furthermore, grantees must be capable of publishing at least one peer-reviewed article within a year of receiving the grant.
Grant applications will be evaluated by an expert panel in AI. The selection criteria will assess the quality and originality of the research proposal, the applicant’s track record of excellence in research or entrepreneurship, alignment with the Federal Nigerian Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s AI priority areas, and the feasibility of the project budget.
Distribution of Funds: The recipients who have successfully secured the grant will receive notification by December 15, 2023.
Application Procedure:
- The application process commences on October 13, 2023, and all eligible applicants can submit their proposals until the closing date on November 15, 2023.
- Applications should be submitted via the designated online portal hosted by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s supervision.
- The proposals will be evaluated by a panel of experts appointed by the Ministry.
- Shortlisted applicants will receive email notifications and be invited for an interview with the panel.
