United Nations University Master’s Scholarship for Developing Countries in 2023 (Germany)

Written by admin

Since 2017, the Joint Master’s Programme has been a proud member of an exclusive selection of international postgraduate programs, reaping the advantages of the EPOS funding initiative generously provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Our collaborative M.Sc. program empowers postgraduate scholars with in-depth expertise, critical insights, strategic thinking, and the essential tools needed to adopt an interdisciplinary approach to address environmental risks and human security. Notably, it is the third academic program in Bonn to gain admission to the esteemed DAAD funding scheme. This distinction places it alongside the ZEF Doctoral Studies program and the ARTS study program offered by the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Bonn.

The inception of this Master’s program is the result of a productive partnership between the University of Bonn Department of Geography and the United Nations University. It represents a significant stride towards the global expansion of the University of Bonn and is made possible through the valuable support of the German agency, DAAD.

Key Benefits

Successful candidates will receive comprehensive funding that covers all expenses directly associated with the study program, along with their cost of living in Bonn.

Eligibility Criteria

In addition to satisfying the general eligibility criteria for the Master’s program, eligible applicants should meet the following prerequisites:

  • Originating from a “Developing Country” (according to the classification of the DAAD)
  • Possessing a minimum of two years of practical work experience (e.g., with an NGO, governmental organization, or the private sector) in a field related to the study program
  • Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree no longer than five years ago
  • Holding no other Master’s degree in a similar field of study
  • Aspiring to pursue a career as a practitioner in a field connected to the program of study

Application Procedure

Prospective students seeking consideration for these scholarships should apply for the program itself by completing the application forms for the DAAD. It’s important to note that acceptance of the former doesn’t guarantee acceptance of the latter. The selection process for the EPOS funding, from the pool of shortlisted candidates, takes place between February and April each year.

Applicants who do not meet the EPOS requirements but are interested in financial support during their studies are encouraged to apply independently and well in advance to other available funding programs in Germany.
