The African Studies Centre Leiden Africa Thesis Award aims to promote the study of African cultures and societies by encouraging student research and writing on African issues. It is awarded annually to a student whose master’s thesis is based on research on an African issue. The prize is € 500,-, and the winning thesis will be published in the ASCL’s African Studies Collection. All submitted theses will be made available online in full text via the ASCL’s library catalog.
Requirements
Master students who finished their thesis at an African university or in the Netherlands between August 31, 2022, and August 31, 2023, are eligible to apply for the Africa Thesis Award 2023.
Students in the Netherlands must have a grade point average of 8 or above.
Students with a grade of A (or equivalent) from non-Dutch universities may apply if the accompanying letter from the supervisor affirms the thesis’ brilliance and supports the grade score.
