Climate and Sustainability Academy Fellowship (£2,365 Monthly Stipend) at Chatham House Global Platform for Action 2023/2024

Written by admin

The Global Platform for Action Climate and Sustainability Academy Fellowship is an initiative of Chatham House, as well as the Global Platform for Action on Sustainable Energy in Displacement Environments (GPA), which is housed at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), and the University of Oxford Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH).

The fellowship allows candidates to spend ten months working on a personal project at Chatham House. Fellows are strongly encouraged to consider how they can develop the existing research of the Environment and Society Programme and GPA Transforming Humanitarian Energy Access (THEA) program on humanitarian energy.

The program provides inclusionary analysis and evidence to support the energy needs of all displaced people. They focus on quantitative data analysis to support inclusive humanitarian energy action in refugee settings.

Fellows participate in the Institute’s main activities, improving their skills through the leadership program and expanding their network of contacts in international affairs.

Duration

Academy Fellows will spend ten months at Chatham House between October 2023 and July 2024.

Location

The fellow will work from Chatham House in London full-time, with the option of working remotely.

A fellow’s time will be divided among three major areas:

  • Completing a personal research project: The fellow will select and develop a personal project to work on with a Chatham House specialist (roughly 60%).
  • The Leadership Program is an essential component of all fellowships. It seeks to increase fellows’ knowledge, network, and self-awareness and provide them with vital talents they may draw in their future jobs as leaders in their area (about 20%).
  • Contributing to ongoing research activities: Fellows will collaborate with their host research team and other Chatham House teams to contribute to existing research priorities in keeping with the Chatham House mission (roughly 20%).

Leadership Development Program

All fellows engage in and contribute to the Leadership Programme, which includes the following components:

  • Intensive induction week

Academy fellowships begin with a five-day intensive induction week to acquaint themselves with the fellowship aspects, meet their host research program, and have their first personal development coaching session.

  • Discussion seminars

In these sessions, fellows meet and discuss current international affairs challenges with subject matter a team of experts from Chatham House and beyond. The main substantive and skill-based areas essential for knowledgeable and successful global leadership are covered in the seminars. These meetings are often presided over by fellows, who are expected to share their expertise and benefit from it.

  • Leadership workshops

Every two months, fellows attend half-day courses focused on skill development in particular phases of leadership, such as ‘Leadership in a New Role’ and ‘Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship.’

  • presentations of projects

Fellows share updates on their research projects to aid presentation skills development, provide a venue for peer criticism, and analyze problems outside their expertise.

  • Personal development coaching

Fellows can work one-on-one with a committed coach to increase their self-awareness. With the coach’s help, fellows establish personal development goals they try to achieve during and after their fellowship.

  • Media training

Fellows learn effective interview techniques for television and radio, culminating in a simulated interview in which they get comments on style and any areas for growth.

  • ‘Leadership in the 21st Century’ Breakfast Briefings

All fellows have first dibs on the breakfast briefing series “Leadership in the 21st Century.” There, they get to converse about leadership experiences and learn in a relaxed atmosphere with public, private, nonprofit, and media leaders.

  • Career mentoring (optional)

Fellows’ growth is promoted and supported by pairing them with mentors to broaden their career perspectives and route.

Remuneration and benefits

Participants will be paid a monthly stipend of £2,365 to cover London living expenditures such as housing, utilities, food, transportation, and other necessities.
