Requirements
- Prospective candidates who are presently registered in an undergraduate program are required to ensure that they are making satisfactory progress towards fulfilling all the degree prerequisites prior to August 1 of the year in which they intend to enroll in the Schwarzman Scholars program. This requirement pertains to individuals who are seeking admission to the Schwarzman Scholars program.
- Applicants must explain how joining the Schwarzman Scholars program will help them realize their potential as leaders in their field, regardless of their undergraduate major. There are no mandatory requirements for a particular area of undergraduate academic pursuit; all disciplines are inclusive. There are no required courses at the undergraduate level in any given field.
- Prospective applicants are required to have attained the age of 18 years, but not exceeded 29 years as of August 1st in the year of their enrollment as Schwarzman Scholars. For the Class of 2024-2025, candidates must have attained this age by August 1st, 2024.
- Applicants are required to exhibit a high level of proficiency in the English language, since instruction will be given exclusively in English. If English is not the applicant’s first language, then they are required to provide the results of an official English proficiency exam along with their application. Applicants who attended an undergraduate school where English was the predominant medium of instruction for at least two years of their academic degree are exempt from having to fulfill this criterion. Applicants who can demonstrate that they have studied in English for two years or more at a master’s degree level or above will not be needed to fulfill this criterion, and they will have the requirement waived on their behalf. The Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language, often known as the TOEFL iBT, is one of the examinations that can be counted among the options that are considered to be appropriate. The Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) is one of the tests that falls under the category of acceptable alternatives. Minimum score 100. IELTS stands for the International English Language Testing System. Minimum score 7. Either the Cambridge English: Advanced (C1) or Cambridge English: Proficiency (C2) exam is acceptable.
Documents Required for Application
The submission of the accompanying documentation is necessary:
- Please submit an up-to-date version of your curriculum vitae or resume, with a maximum length of two pages.
- Two essays are mandatory for this application. The first essay is a Leadership Essay, which should be 750 words in length. The second essay is a Statement of Purpose, which should be 500 words in length. The essays are a critical component of the application, designed to help the selection committee understand you as an individual and get a sense of your leadership abilities/potential, as well as your writing and analytical skills.
- Transcript/Academic Records: You are required to scan and upload official transcripts for each degree-granting post-secondary education institution you attended.
- 3 Letters of Recommendation: Recommenders should know you well and be able to speak to your intellectual abilities, personal characteristics, and leadership potential using specific examples from their direct experience working with you.
- Video Introduction: Provide a short video self-introduction of no more than 1 minute. Introduce yourself in any style or setting you think best conveys your interests and personality. The point of this recording is to allow the committee to hear you introduce yourself in your own voice and style.

The application must be completed online and submitted electronically once you have answered all the required questions. The application form must be completed in English.
