The Overseas Development Institute is presently accepting applications for the ODI Fellowship Scheme, 2023.
The requirements set forth by the participating governments largely influence the awarding of fellowships. The continuous demand from governments for ODI fellows, in addition to the level of responsibility assigned to them, is a monument to the respect the scheme has garnered in the 59 years since it was first formed.
Under the auspices of the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), recent graduates with a background in economics and statistics can spend two years working as civil servants in low and middle-income countries across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, the Pacific, and the Western Balkans. ODI Fellows are primarily employed in the public sector at the local level and report to local management. Fellows are placed in a variety of institutions, including but not limited to ministries of finance and planning, ministries of health and education, central banks, statistics offices, and regulatory authorities.
Requirements
- The ODI fellowship program is accessible to applicants from any country in the world, and the organization welcomes and encourages applications from LGBTQ+ candidates as well as people with disabilities. Those who have completed their graduate studies in economics or statistics and have an interest in development are encouraged to apply.
Competencies and qualifications that are anticipated
- The specific requirements for fellowships vary from job to job and country to country, but they always involve a mix of relevant professional experience and personal attributes.
Qualifications
- The ODI Fellowship Scheme is accessible to applicants of any nationality who hold a master’s degree or doctoral degree in economics, statistics, or a topic that is closely connected to these subjects.
- Graduate-level specialization in a relevant topic such as agricultural economics, environmental economics, international economics, health economics, development economics, or econometrics and statistics is an example of what is needed. Other relevant fields include international economics, health economics, and development economics.
- If you were working toward a postgraduate degree at the time you submitted your application for a Fellowship, receiving one is contingent upon your having earned that degree with a satisfactory grade point average.
Benefits
- In addition to receiving a housing allowance, fellows are given a total package that is comparable to 21,000 British pounds per year, with that amount growing to 23,000 British pounds in the second year.
Your application will be stronger if you can demonstrate an interest in public policy, have relevant professional or volunteer experience, speak multiple languages (with English being required and French being highly helpful), and have good information technology abilities.
Criterion of selection
- The week of the 19th of June in 2023 has been set aside for interviews to take place.
- Those who are selected after the application period ends will be required to appear in person in London for a briefing session that will last for the entire week beginning September 11, 2023.
