The Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship is currently accepting applications from prospective candidates for its scholarship grants for African students in the academic year 2023. Prospective applicants have the option of submitting a request for financial assistance in the form of a tuition waiver or reimbursement for other educational expenditures, such as the cost of doing research or writing a dissertation. Expenses for yourself, your family, or your schooling will also be taken into consideration. In addition, proposals that ask for financial assistance to attend professional conferences will be taken into consideration.
Eligibility: Applicants to the Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship Grant Program are expected to meet the following standards in order to be eligible for the program:
- Applicants are required to be from Africa.
- The applicants must currently be enrolled as African students at MSU and maintain a satisfactory academic status. (The grant is geared mostly toward assisting women in furthering their education.)
- You must be a current MSU student with a valid temporary visa to apply.
- Applicants are required to provide a description of the circumstances that raise the possibility that they will return to their country of origin.
- The applicants need to demonstrate that they are capable of achieving their educational objectives, and they need to have the confidence to actively seek out more possibilities to improve their education.

Part I: Your narrative should be no longer than three pages with single spacing and should cover the following subjects in some way:
- A general statement of the applicant’s educational goals and how the suggested activities relate to those goals (what you will do, why you will do it, where you will do it, and with whom you will do it).
- A detailed explanation of the activities’ goals, as well as an analysis of the potential short-term and long-term advantages to both the student and the student’s home country.
- Outline of a budget that includes the anticipated costs associated with the activities, as well as any other confirmed or potential money from the university or any outside sources that the student is expected to receive during the time period that these activities are taking place.
Part II: Supporting letters
- It is necessary to provide two letters of recommendation; one must come from the applicant’s adviser or chairman, and the other must come from one of the applicant’s teachers.
Method of Application: Prospective recipients of the Miriam J. Kelley African Scholarship Grant Program should send their applications to the Office for International Students and Scholars, which is located in room 103 of the International Centre. The application consists of a narrative and two recommendation letters.
