The University of Sussex Chancellor’s Masters Scholarships are offered to First Class graduates from UK or Irish institutions. With only 100 scholarships available, competition for these awards is fierce. Applications are sought from eligible candidates who meet the specified criteria below.
Benefits
- £3,000 for candidates assessed as ‘Home’ for fees, or £5,000 for candidates assessed as ‘Overseas’ for fees.
Requirements
- Must have completed a Bachelor’s (Hons) degree at a UK or Irish university, achieving or expecting to achieve a First.
- Must have accepted an offer of admission to an eligible full-time or part-time Master’s program commencing in September 2024.
Ineligibility
You are ineligible for this scholarship if you:
- Are applying for a Master’s program at a university other than the University of Sussex.
- Are progressing to the final year of an integrated Master’s program at Sussex.
- Are a 2024 graduate of Sussex.
- Have attended a UK university’s offshore campus or external program.
Excluded Courses
The following courses are excluded from eligibility for this scholarship::
- Certificates and Diplomas (including PGCE)
- Programs at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)
- Programs at IDS
- Early Years Education (with Early Years Teacher status)Social Work degrees (if receiving an NHS bursary)
- Online courses
- Schools direct teaching courses
- Master’s programs funded by research councils (e.g., ESRC 1+3 funding)
Selection Process

Once the scholarship application deadline has passed, the Scholarships Office will notify you of the decision regarding your application. If you do not meet the scholarship’s eligibility criteria, your application will not be considered.
Method of Application
To be eligible for the Chancellor’s Masters Scholarship, you must have received and accepted an offer of admission to an eligible Master’s program at Sussex and hold, or anticipate achieving, a First Class UK or Irish Bachelor’s degree. To apply for the scholarship, you must submit a statement of academic interest. This statement should include details about:
– Your past academic accomplishments and achievements
– Your academic and career goals post-Masters completion
– Any relevant work experience or extracurricular activities related to your Master’s program
