Requirements:
The Entrepreneur:
- Aged 35 or below at the time of competition submission, and legally recognized as an adult in their country of nationality
- Holds nationality from an African Union member country with official identification
- Founder or co-founder of the represented venture and actively involved in its operations and leadership
- Applicants must have no history of criminal offenses related to corruption, tax evasion, financial impropriety, felony, or other violations.
The Venture:
- Already legally registered or in the process of registration in an African Union member country before July 1, 2024
- Headquartered in an African Union member country
- Designed to be financially sustainable, either as a for-profit or non-profit generating revenue without dependency on donor funding
- Contributes to the agrifood sector’s development through innovation or process improvement.
- The agrifood sector encompasses businesses involved in various aspects such as:
– Agrifood research & development
– Primary food production (farming)
– Crop nutrition
– Irrigation
– Mechanisation, automation, or robotics, including drones
– Crop protection
– Hydroponics or urban farming
– Transport, distribution, storage, or logistics
– Food processing
– Packaging or marketing
– Food retail or service
– Waste management or recycling
– Digital or technology solutions/services for the agri-food sector
– Innovative finance solutions/services for the agri-food sector
– Renewable energy or environmental solutions/services for the agri-food sector
