Applications are now open for the 2024 Climate Smart Utilities Recognition Programme, set to coincide with the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition (WWCE) in Toronto, Canada, from August 11th to 15th, 2024. Water and sanitation utilities worldwide are encouraged to apply, with a deadline of May 20th, 2024.
Participating in this recognition programme offers utilities an exceptional opportunity to gain acknowledgement and exchange best practices towards achieving Climate Smart status within the water sector. It provides a platform for utilities to reflect on their Climate Smart journey, ensuring international visibility for their efforts and sharing their ambitions for a Climate Smart water sector. Additionally, joining the programme facilitates knowledge exchange and collaboration with utilities globally.
Financial support is available for six representatives in total: three from the top utilities in the Achiever category and three from the top utilities in the Entrant category from low-, lower-middle-, and upper-middle-income countries. This support covers flight expenses, conference registration fees, and accommodation in Toronto.
Through their applications, utilities can assess their progress on the Climate Smart journey and benchmark themselves against various indicators and criteria defining an ideal Climate-Smart Utility across different pillars.
The programme aims to inspire utilities and stakeholders to embrace a cultural shift towards Climate Smart practices, focusing on adaptation, mitigation, and leadership. Its primary objectives are to increase awareness through sharing best practices, inspire action by presenting the ideal Climate Smart utility model, and celebrate and share ongoing work to engage key stakeholders and encourage further action.
