The Africa Food Prize stands as the foremost award recognizing an exceptional individual or institution that is spearheading efforts to transform the agricultural landscape in Africa—from a mere struggle for survival to a thriving business.
With a prize of US $100,000, this award celebrates Africans who are driving Africa’s agricultural agenda. It shines a spotlight on courageous endeavors and technical breakthroughs that have the potential to be replicated across the continent, ushering in a new era of food security and economic prosperity for all Africans.
Originating as the Yara Prize, the Africa Food Prize was established in 2005 by Yara International ASA in Norway to honor outstanding achievements in African agriculture.
Selection Criteria:
The Prize Committee evaluates nominees based on the following criteria:
- Contribution to measurable reduction of poverty and hunger and/or enhancement of food and nutrition security
- Possibility of radical change brought about by sustainability, scalability, and repetition
- Capability for revolutionary transformation via scalability, replication, and sustainability
- Augmented awareness and collaboration among African audiences and organizations
